LoL, I’ve been in the RP for about 3 years and subscribed to Living in Davao. This is one of the Funniest e-mails I got from the thread.
For those considering retirement, let me introduce you to Philippines logic. It is not the big stuff, but the little stuff that drives you up the wall.
Some times the logic just is so warped that the only thing you can do is blow a fuse or just walk away shaking your head.
We are finishing up the restoration on our new home. We walk into a paint store and purchase paint, thinner, tint, and rollers. 8K order. Smiles all over the place and delivery in two hours. Free delivery. Back to the same store a week later, and purchase 12K of paint. No delivery possible sir. But you gave free delivery last week on 2/3 the size order. Correct sir, but last week you purchased roller covers which is “equipment” and we offer free delivery for equipment. Today you order paint and we do not deliver paint. Set in rock, they blew off the order to avoid delivery.
Now we have round two today. We walk into a store we have done business with several times over the last year. We purchased a air con unit and received free delivery and install. Then we purchased a washing machine, and received free delivery and install. Third time around was a range, with full deliver and set up, yep again free. Today we walk in and order a top of the line clothing washer, a matching clothing dryer, and two air con. All one order for one deliver, just under 100K. But sir, we must charge you 1,200 delivery. Why??? Company policy. After blowing my fuse, the set in rock explanation of the manager was that when I order one item it only takes an hour or so to install, but by ordering four items it will tie his delivery / install team up for a full morning and he can not give away that much time. They actually blew off a 100K purchase because they did not want to provide free deliver, but would provide free delivery for any one of the items purchased.
We received two prices for termite protection for the home. One bid is 11K for a three year contract. The other is 54K for a one year contract. The 54K price is offered with a straight face and the claim that their service is worth that price because they use “sentricon”. This is after the admission that the other chemical is effective for 3 years and their bait system is only good for one year.
To get paint you go to a paint store. To get electrical you go to an electrical supply. To get plumbing you go to a plumbing supply. You can buy dog food at a hardware store. None of them have much in the line of parking.
Welcome to the Philippines, I love this place.
